The Mumbai Forest Department on February 29 has cleared its way for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pet Delhi-Mumbai Freight Corridor project at the cost 58 hectares of forest land.
Reacting to the news, Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon tweeted, “Have to find an alternative..our only source of life/green in this city.Already it’s ridden with encroachments.”
For the project to happen in the city, the forest department has deserved 58 hectares of forest land. it is reported in a national daily that the forest department did not pay a heed to the objections raised by Sanjay Gandhi National Park, which is expected to lose 10.55 hectares of land, and others.
Sanjay Gandhi National Park, previously known as Borivali National Park, is a home to over 1000 plant species, 251 species of migratory, land and water birds, 50,000 species of insects and 40 species of mammals among others.
